Helping put ITSO into action
ITSO onboarding is designed to help members move smoothly from development to live operation within a nationally interoperable environment. It provides a clear, structured route through certification, security, and operational readiness - reducing risk and improving confidence at go-live.
Whether you are joining ITSO for the first time or an existing member introducing new products or services, onboarding ensures your solution is prepared to operate securely and reliably across the ITSO network.

Putting ITSO into practice
Every organisation that takes part in the operation of an ITSO scheme relies on our products and services. Whether you are an organisation supplying equipment or a service operator retailing and accepting smart-enabled tickets, to participate in ITSO requires a valid membership.
ITSO membership protects the integrity of the national infrastructure that we work hard to develop and maintain.
Becoming a member is the first step in the onboarding process to ensure you start on the right foundations - connected, compliant, and ready to build confidently within our trusted national ticketing framework.
Operating under shared agreements
Members onboarding with ITSO commit to following the Specification and our product and service protocols through a Membership Agreement and, where applicable, an Operating Licence.
This shared commitment ensures that every ITSO-compliant product, from smart media to ticket validator, delivers consistent levels of security and interoperability.
Membership enables organisations to participate in the ITSO scheme and promote the use of the Specification within their normal business activities. The agreement sets out the rights and obligations of participation, including intellectual property, licensing and compliance requirements.
Understanding the jargon
Onboarding into ITSO - and learning the terminology - can feel complex, but we’re here to make it straightforward.
Members have a dedicated Account Manager to help answer questions, provide guidance and connect you to the right teams. During onboarding and beyond, our Technical and Certification team supports product approval, while our Service Management Team provides operational support for ISMS services and scheme management.
Our Member Portal and other member tools offer comprehensive library of guidance, documentation and practical resources to help organisations understand the ITSO environment.
ITSO also supports members in identifying and engaging with the right partners through our wider Membership community.
