The benefits of travelling using an ITSO enabled Robin Hood smartcard have just been extended with the launch of a new ticketing app that lets customers top up wherever they are. Robin Hood smartcards can be used to pay for travel on most bus, tram and train operators across the city, with a capped daily price on Pay As You Go (PAYG) cards, and great savings on season products.
Until recently, customers have only been able to renew or top up their cards using on-street machines. But the launch of the free Robin Hood Ticketing app means customers can now top up wherever they are. The app is already available to Android users, and is expected to become available on IoS devices later this month.
With the country now in a national lockdown, the app will provide a contact-free way for Robin Hood Card customers who still need to travel to pay for their journeys.
Councillor Adele Williams, Nottingham City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Transport, said: “The Robin Hood Card is all about making using public transport easier and better value.
“Aside from the convenience for customers of more services and functions being available online or via app, having contact-free options has never been more important. The launch of this app offers huge improvements in how customers use their Robin Hood card. It’s easier and quicker, with no need to rely on an on-street machine.
“This is just the latest step in making the Robin Hood smartcard even easier for customers. Within the next few months we’re looking forward to enabling top ups using tram stop ticket machines, and on making it possible for people to use their phones instead of their cards.”
Robin Hood Cards are available in season or PAYG at adults, students and under 19 prices. All cards cost £3 and can now be purchased online at www.robinhoodnetwork.co.uk, or are available through on-street ticket machines.
Once they’ve bought their card, customers will be able to:
Buy season products and PAYG top ups and load the products onto their card, from their phones
Log into their account and check their card balance
Download any actions onto their RH card – for example that have been processed by customer services or bought online
To download the app, search the Play Store for ‘Robin Hood Ticketing.’ The existing Robin Hood Network app, which shows live departures and bus and tram stops, will remain available, with a plan in place to add these features to the new app next year.
The app has been funded using part of the City Council’s Transforming Cities grant, which aims to invest in public and sustainable transport to improve connections, drive up productivity and spread prosperity.
