ITSO is incredibly proud that the home of our office, Milton Keynes has been awarded official city status as part of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Through the work of ITSO member Milton Keynes Council, our city has become a trailblazer in innovation in areas such as sustainable housing and renewable energy as well as public transport - creating a smarter, healthier and greener city.
Launched last year, Get Around MK is a programme designed to inspire and motivate residents and commuters to get active but also make greener and healthier choices when it comes to how they get around the city. Going digital too, the Get Around MK app, developed by ITSO supplier member Unicard, not only allows you to explore the area using its interactive map, but links all other transport services such as bus timetables and e-scooters.
Their advances in public transport continued with the MK Move smartcard - a multi operator ITSO based smartcard (cards provided by ITSO supplier member Euclid) offering multiple ticket types on the various operators across MK. State of the art Ticket Vending Machines supplied by ITSO supplier Cammax have been popping up across the city in the last two years and these can be used to buy and top up the ITSO card. The ITSO smartcard can also be used on MK Connect, the biggest demand responsive transport project of its type in the UK. It provides an affordable service for people who are not served by a bus route, or for when other choices like cycling are not an option.
A spokesperson for MK Council says "We’re delighted with the news which supports just how important MK has become to the regional and national economies. City status will attract even more people to live, work and visit Milton Keynes. We’re looking forward to capitalising on the opportunities this will bring, and we have exciting transport plans to ensure people can get around our city easily and sustainably.”
Steve Holden, CEO of ITSO says “Living and working in Milton Keynes, the array of improvements and advancements to public transport made by the council are evident. Technology is transforming how we plan and access transport services and it is great to see the use of travel apps and ITSO based technology to help deliver choice and ease of travel in and around our city.”
