Certification & Testing

Certification provides formal recognition of a product's conformance to the ITSO Specification. This allows:

  • Organisations to make clear and substantiated claims of conformance to the Specification.
  • Buyers to specify and successfully procure conforming products that inter-operate.
  • A certificate issued by ITSO gives assurance on interpoperability and security. It shows that the functionality of the item submitted has been tested by ITSO and conforms to the Specification current at the time of testing and can interoprate with other equipment. Certificates, as published by ITSO, are valid for a certain period to assure that newer equipment is backward compatible with older versions.

Certificates

ITSO provides Certificates for three types of equipment/systems.
The certificates lists provides a download copy of each Certificate that has been awarded by ITSO and is broken down by Category and Organisation (in alphabetical order).

Certification and Testing Categories

The question has been asked as to what ITSO will be certifying in terms of what it should be certified and what should its functionality be. A copy of the Certification and Testing categories is available as a download.

Certification & Testing Manual

This document describes the ITSO Interoperability Certification process. Interoperability is the ability of systems to provide services to and accept services from other systems and to use the services so exchanged to enable them to operate effectively together. Certification is the evaluation and testing of the component and system against requirements and the awarding of an ITSO Certification & Test Certificate.
The document includes an overview of the certification cycle, starting from the application by the Manufacturer/Vendor, the execution of test against the ITSO specification and the interoperability demonstration in the ITSO warehouse. It deals with the role of ITSO, the Manufacturer / Vendor and the Independent Test Laboratory in this cycle. It also focuses on reporting, warehouse management and security.
Its aim is to provide a better understanding of the ITSO interoperability certification process

ITSO Certification and Testing Rail POST Equipment

This paper relates to the Minimum Requirements for the Certification of UK Rail Validation Equipment that are Fixed Devices and are to be used within a Closed System and with the functionality of an ITSO POST. This specifically relates to devices that are to be used on, or in conjunction with, devices on the UK National Rail Network.

ITSO Certification and Testing Offline Hand Held Post Equipment

This paper relates specifically to the Minimum Requirements for the Certification of Off-line Hand-held POST Equipment having a self-contained power source for Certification.
This is specifically designed to allow such POSTs to be designed for extended service intervals on bus, tram, or ferry services. A copy of this paper is available as a download

Certification of Off Line Bus ETM Equipment

This paper relates specifically to the Minimum Requirements for the Certification of off line bus ETM Equipment for Certification.Off line bus ETM equipment shall be considered fully compliant, with respect to the Operating License and the Certification Process, if it meets or exceeds the following requirements outlined in this paper.

ITSO Self Testing Process

ITSO Testing is managed through the ITSO Test House and the ITSO Interoperability Warehouse. ITSO has accredited Integri BV as an ITSO Test House and to house the Interoperability Warehouse.
ITSO publish the Test Scripts carried out by the ITSO Test House, and these are available to Registered Suppliers together with the Test Tools used.
All software, equipment and sub-assemblies must be certified by ITSO before a Licensed Member can use them in the ITSO Environment. It is required that the version of all ITSO certified Equipment and Software will be recorded and controlled by the Registered Supplier.

Following initial successful Testing and Certification, it is in certain circumstances willing to limit testing or allow self-certification or self-testing.
