London Freedom Pass, London Councils
Membership of ITSO and Operating Licence provided by ITSO Services Limited
Launch Date: issuing of dual ITSO/Oyster capability smartcards started in December 2009
December 2009 heralded the start of London Council Freedom Pass issuance under the ITSO Services Ltd Licensed Membership. Approximately 1.2 million London Freedom passes have been issued for 1st April 2010, passes unique in their own right as they invoke dual ITSO-Oyster encoding. This issuance has also seen the first concessionary cards attributed to ISL's second Shell OID, 0110.
As Licensed Operator, ISL supplies London Councils with HOPS and ISAM provisions as well as ITSO related support. The ITSO element within Freedom Passes allows the pass to be used as a smartcard for travel in ITSO smart areas. Work is also ongoing to allow non-London ENCTS cards to be used as smart cards for travel on London buses.
Freedom Passes can be used at any time on the Tube, London Overground, Bus, DLR and Tram services, and in standard class on many, but not all National Rail routes in London.
