Play your part to get Britain moving SMART

There are currently no vacancies available at ITSO.

ITSO is a Government-backed, non-profit organisation which aims to make rail and bus travel throughout the UK seamless and easier by using smart technology.

The conventional cash-bought ticket becomes obsolete. Instead, passengers can pay for journeys using their electronically loaded smart devices - be that cards or, eventually, mobile phones. This means that someone needing to travel by both bus and a train can use just one smart device to access both. Eventually that smart device might be used for travel throughout the UK and, in time, Europe.

ITSO has the backing of UK government, including the Welsh and Scottish assemblies, which is keen to increase the use of public transport by making it more convenient (see Local Transport White Paper announced in January 2011).

Transport operators and suppliers of smart hardware and software can ensure that their systems meet the ITSO Specification so they can all 'talk' to each other electronically.

We work for our membership which consists of a range of organisations from across the smart ticketing and transport industries, with representation from the Public Sector, Transport Operators, Bus and Rail Sectors and Suppliers. Our Board consists of members plus representatives from UK government.

The Government is committed to delivering, with operators and public sector bodies, the infrastructure to enable most public transport journeys to be undertaken using smart ticketing by December 2014.
