At the end of October 2005, Cubic was involved in London's first ITSO-pilot scheme, which was launched seeing the completion of the development effort, covering 88 buses operating across 4 London bus routes; and with 3,500 ITSO cards in use until the end of March 2006. Significantly, the trial involves the integration of Oyster technology and ITSO capability in the same reader, and in the first week of the pilot, over 1,000 ITSO transactions were made on Cubic's smart card readers.

 

 

 

Based on the Department for Transport's 2002 'Route Map' (the strategy for delivering Oyster ITSO interoperability in London), this pilot is part of a series of work packages that will demonstrate the ability to operate ITSO capable Oyster equipment.

 

 

 

The successful completion of this pilot will be the first step on the road to ITSO-Oyster interoperability and will open up a number of future possibilities for integrated transport.
