WELCOME TO THE ITSO WEBSITE

Our site has been developed to assist all who have an interest in the development and use of smartcard solutions that seek to offer interoperable multi-modal services in public transport and other areas.

ITSO's interest is the security of cards, products and transaction data between interoperable schemes. Whilst ITSO does not run schemes, provide equipment or influence commercial agreements, it does provide an environment for schemes to operate in and enjoy that security.

The ITSO Organisation was founded in 1998 as a result of discussions between various UK Passenger Transport Authorities concerning the lack of suitable standards for inter-operable smartcard ticketing. These discussions grew to include other authorities, transport operators and Government.

ITSO was formed to build and maintain a specification for secure 'end to end' inter-operable ticketing transactions, utilising relevant ISO and emerging CEN standards.

ITSO is a non-profit-sharing organisation that maintains the ITSO Specification for Members and the Crown. The Membership of ITSO is broadly based and includes Public Transport Executives, Local Authorities, Passenger Transport Operators and Suppliers of equipment, systems and services. ITSO is supported by the UK Department for Transport.  More...
